Home Designer Pro Break Wall Tool

  1. Break wall tool broken

Has anyone ever had the break wall tool just stop working?

I was working on a plan tonight, and can't seem to break a wall. I thought maybe something in the plan was corrupted, so I started a new new plan, drew 4 walls, and can't get them to break. In the status bar, it shows the break wall is active, and when I click on the wall with the tool, the object layer status says cad default layer, but there is no break.

Am I just being stupid, or is my break wall tool broken?

  2. Sometimes the break wall mark might not show (display)in plan but it has still placed the break. If you select the wall, you might see that it still broke the wall.

  3. That's what I first thought, Tommy, but when I select the wall, it is one full wall, nothing has changed. Any other thoughts?

  4. Someone else asked that question and here is an answer that worked for him:

"Try pulling the wall back and reconnect it, then use the break tool. This has worked to fix many wall issues in the past.."

Not really, but I would try Pat's idea. I really don't have too much trouble with that. Can't remember when I did last.

  6. Thanks for the suggestion Pat, but that doesn't do anything. I guess I will call tech support tomorrow, if it is still broken after a good nights sleep. I have opened up four other plans to check it out, and it just isn't working at all.

  7. Is there an "alt tool" on X2? Can't remember, I'm not at my Chief laptop. If it does, make sure it isn't checked.

  8. Sorry. It's working fine for me in X2.

  9. Look at ...Edit>Edit Behaviors>ALT

    Make sure that isn't checked.

Pat. THAT IS HIS PROBLEM. I was able to duplicate his problem.

  13. Have you waited a while? Sometimes when my plan is really cluttered up and I haven't turned off layers yet, my computer goes really slow.

  14. Pat is the genius. Saved me an embarrassing call to tech support too. Never thought having the alt behaviour active would effect the wall break tool. Not sure why that even makes sense, but thanks for thinking of it, Pat.

  15. The primary reason the alternative behavior is in the menu is for those that have disabilities where they cannot hold the ALT key or right click to get this behavior. It also allows us to document the keyboard and mouse shortcuts in the UI.

The non-primary behaviors are intended as temporary state changes that are typically accessed via keyboard or mouse buttons. These provide quick access to alternative editing methods. In some cases we have not defined any behaviors and are holding them in reserve for future versions.

If you can use the ALT key or other behavior modifiers it is highly recommended that you use the mouse or keyboard short cuts to access them. It is faster and doesn't leave you in a state that can be confusing.
